So I'm sure everyone in the football community has heard about Diego Maradona's rant against the media.
For the deprived people, Diego Maradona is the coach of the Argentina National football team & was a legendary player himself with illustrious careers with Spain's FC Barcelona, Napoli of Italy & Argentine sides Argentinos Juniors, Newell's Old Boys & Boca Juniors. He's also a World Cup winner in 1986 & a runner up in 1990. He's also won the UEFA Cup with Napoli in 1989 & won several individual awards including the 1986's edition of the World Player Of the Year award.
& so now he's decided to speak out against all his media critics who blame him for Argentina's pathetic World Cup qualifying campaign. Sure they made it to South Africa 2010 but the team is in a mess really. With the likes of Juan Sebastian Veron, Martin Demichelis, Lionel Messi & Sergio Aguero, it was mean't to be a easy journey to the world's premier footballing competition.
But after 20 odd matches, 76 players & a hellish goal difference, Argentina barely made it.
So now Diego made his point...especially to his media "friends".
But the irritating thing was how he did it.
By openly blasting his critics, including a phrase, "...all you women can keep on sucking...", gestures involving his private regions & personal insults to some media personel, many have shot back at the "Hand-of-God" wielder.
Sure he had every right to fire back at his critics....but not like this.
The AFA hasn't really helped, forcing FIFA to step in.
Goes to show that too much isn't a good thing.
Adebayor's celebrations, Zidane's headbutt & Effenburg's finger echo the lack of self-restraint by some football icons.
Disappointing really...players & staff who bring the game into dispute.
& I'm thankfully no longer suicidal really...smiles =)
