Bayern Munich proved their European power by sweeping aside Aris 6-0. In the biggest win of Allianz Arena, Italian hit-man Luca Toni hit 4 home while defenders Christian Lell & Phillip Lahm scored as well. As said by manager Ottmar Hitzfeld, "We ended the year with a bang." The Greeks had ample opportunities to take control of the game but narrow misses & superb keeping from Kahn ensured the Reds sealed top spot ahead of Portugal's Sporting Braga & Bolton Wanderers of England. Bayer 04 Leverkusen proved even without skipper Bernd Schneider & Rene Adler, they still had it in them to win. A 5-0 mauling of Swiss side FC Zurich ensured them a place in the Round of 32 as group winners. Their win, the largest win in Bayer's UEFA Cup record also broke their European away goal drought. HSV Hamburg's Olic handed the German side a 1-1 draw to seal their top spot position. While Hamburg looked exactly like the side struggling in the Bundesliga, they managed to pull off a impressive performance to underline their European ambitions.
